CUP BACK ON TRACK

PROCAL Dairies Gunbower Gold Cup is all set for this Saturday October 5, with the event returning to its home turf after the 2018 running of the Cup had to be shifted to Echuca.

Mick Farrant, president of Gunbower Racing Club, detailed the work that has gone into ensuring the event can again take place in the beautiful surrounds of its home course.

“We’ve refurbished the track, resown, relasered, done the drainage work, (put) a new running rail on the inside.”

A lack of adequate drainage at the flood-irrigated track was responsible for the change of venue last year, with the track having been deemed unsafe due to inconsistent moisture levels.

The work done since will help ensure the track is in immaculate condition this year.

“We’re looking good at this stage,” the president enthused, encouraging people to get to the track on Saturday to enjoy a relaxing day.

“It’s going to be a great day out. There’s something for everyone there. It’s a party atmosphere.”

Mr Farrant pointed out the event appeals to more than racing enthusiasts.

“Most people that go to those days aren’t avid racegoers. They’re going for the atmosphere, and we can provide that.”

There will be children’s activities and a range of food and beverages.

Fashions on the Field will add to the day’s entertainment.

Culinary options include roast meals, fish and chips, and sandwiches.

You’ll have the ideal picnic setting in which to enjoy the food and action president Farrant explained.

“It’s a really great setting out there. We’re surrounded by a creek and lagoon and it’s a bush setting.”

Gates open at 11am.

The track is at 223 Dormoyle Road, Gunbower.

Buses to the track are available from Kerang, Koondrook, Cohuna and Leitchville.

To the track — Pick up points and times are:

• Royal Hotel Barham at 10.30 am

• Koondrook Pub at 10.40am

• Woolworths Carpark Kerang at 11am

• Cohuna IGA rear Carpark at 11.20am

• Leitchville Pub at 11.30am

From the track: The same bus will take all travellers who arrived on this bus back to the above locations at the conclusion of the Race Day. The conclusion of the Race Day will be at 5pm.
